Description
These upcycled Christmas ornaments are made from local walnut and aluminum cans. After cutting the wood to size and cutting the aluminum can into strips, I cut the walnut blank and glue in the aluminum and clamp overnight. The next day, I repeat the process. I put at least 3 strips on aluminum in each walnut blank. After the glue has cured, I trim it up on the bandsaw and turn it on the lathe. The entire process is done freehand, so each ornament is unique.
I drill a tiny hole in the top for the hook and finish it with natural tung oil.
These ornaments average 3-4″ long.
Note that I have ornaments without aluminum and made from different species available as well as shaped ornaments (states, etc).
